Why Was The Bible Written

John 5:39 KJV Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

Jesus says the bible was written about Himself and it was written so we will know He is the only Way to heaven. This means Jesus is the Way we live in heaven with Him.

Is Jesus talking about the bible we have now? No. When Jesus was here the only written scriptures were what we call the Old Testament. So, when we read the Old Testament there are not only stories about people but there is the telling of a coming Savior. Our bible today tells not only that a Savior was coming but that He came.

Therefore, the bible is God’s letters written to us for the purpose of telling us who Christ is, why He came, why we need His cross, and how to move from death to life.

The written Word of God has one main subject, Jesus Christ.

Matthew 1:1 KJV 1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Matthew 1:16 KJV 16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Luke 4:18 KJV 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

John 20:31 KJV 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

We pray you come to know who Jesus the Christ is and why He came just for you. To learn more about Jesus read our Coming To Christ.
