Luke 10:20 KJV Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven
The disciples came back from their evangelical tour filled with joy because they had exerted power over demons in the name of Jesus. Then it’s like Jesus rains on their parade. He basically says, Yes, I was there when Satan fell from heaven. Yes, I have given you power over the enemy but you are putting your joy in the wrong place. True joy is in the fact your name is written in the Book of Life.
Like the disciples we judge success and failure by our worldly views. The worldly view of the ministry and mission of Jesus is that it was a colossal failure. Jesus did not change the world. Jesus did not defeat the Romans. Jesus could not even get His own people, the Jews and Jewish leaders, to accept Him.
As believers we know Christ was never going to fail. He did accomplish His mission. As believers we see the world very differently. The world is filled with sorrow and darkness and as believers we are the ambassadors of the Light of the world. As believers we are filled with joy and peace through the Holy Spirit. As believers we overflow with living water. As believers we walk through this dark world to tell others of the One Who saves and gives these blessings so they too will rejoice their names are written in the Book of Life.
Rejoice as you anticipate living in a place prepared just for you. A place absent of all the worldly sorrows caused by sin.
Colossians 3:1 KJV If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
This is not our home. Seek what is above, love those things in heaven, and look for the appearing of your Lord and Savior.
