What Is The True Gospel

How do we determine the person we are listening to is speaking the true gospel? How do we discern that we are hearing the “testimony of God?” These verses give us some insight.

1 Corinthians 2:2 KJV And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 

The truly powerful speaker of the gospel does not desire to impress with human wisdom:

wisdom-[4678 (sophia) is the root of the English terms, “sophistication” and “philosophy”… from 5429 – phroninos -… i.e. what we consider smart. This always roots to our personal perspective (“inner outlook”) which requires our definition of being “shrewd.”  i.e. reflects personal mind-set (insight).  (HELPS Word-studies)

True Gospel Made Simple

Paul did not speak using big words to impress. He did not use what would be seen as great wisdom to influence those listening. Paul had made up his mind to put aside all of his personal philosophy, learning, and mind-sets. He had determined he would speak about one thing, “Jesus Christ and Him crucified.“

Why?

There is no salvation without the cross of Jesus Christ. There is no way to God except through the cross of Jesus Christ. The weight of what he had been called to do made him feel inadequate.

True faith does not come by the way of soft music, soft words, reasoning or wisdom and intellect. Salvation belongs to God.  Paul had all the higher learning of his day. He was very intelligent and climbing the ladder of success, so he thought. Until he came face to face with Wisdom Himself and all that he knew became trash (1 Corinthians 1:21, 3:19-20).  

Speaking The Truth Of The True Gospel

1 Corinthians 1:21-23  KJV 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God….

1 Corinthians 30-31 KJV 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

The wisdom of the world will never know God. The philosophy of the world sees faith in a Man crucified as stupid, foolishness. But believers who have received the gift of faith in the Son of God know, Jesus Christ is our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption. Jesus Christ is our life. 

Is The Real Gospel Of Christ Missing

Are you listening to false doctrine? There are many in the pulpits who teach for their own recognition. Oh, they hide their true intentions but God sees them. They sound sincere, wise, and knowledgeable. Their speech is smooth and flattering to the emotions. But there is one thing missing, the true gospel. 

Am I following Jesus or a person? Am I following Jesus Christ of the bible or a pretend one?

Taking A Stand and Making A Choice

The answers to these questions have eternal consequences.  

Matthew 19:27 KJV Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? 28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. 30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

Following Christ is not an easy task or an easy mission. The bible talks about the armour of God and how to use this armour. As the days approach the True Believers will begin to shine and those who only speak about Christ will blend into the world.

John 8:12 12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Is Jesus Christ the love of your heart? Does the person you listen to tell you Jesus requires you to forsake everyone and everything to follow Him?
