Matthew 26:30 KJV And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
I had not thought of Jesus singing, not really, even though I had read this verse many times. Hebrews 2:12 also tell us Jesus sang a song of praise. What was going on when Jesus was singing.
Jesus has told His disciples He is going to die by crucifixion and one of the disciples is going to betray Him. This is not a happy time for Jesus. He knows with perfect knowledge what is in His near future and He sings. He knows His body will be beaten to the point He will no longer look like a person, yet He sings, Isaiah 52:14. Jesus knew He was going to experience separation from His Father when our sin was indebted to Him and He must bear our punishment to pay for our sin (Isaiah 53:4-5, 1 Peter 3:18), yet He sings. We find in Acts 16:16-25 Paul and Silas being beaten and put in prison with chains on their feet, yet they sang (Acts 16:25).
We have been told anyone that is committed to the truth, walks out their daily life holy before God, and does not waiver from knowing they are at peace with God, will be persecuted (2 Timothy 3:12). We have also been told the world will hate all believers because the world hated Jesus first, (John 15:18-20).
Persecution is not a matter of if but when is it coming your way. When it comes will you be able to sing?
The time to prepare for war is not when the battle is at your front door but when you see the first sign.
Psalm 118:22 KJV The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. 23 This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes. 24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Jesus is the rejected stone that is the chief corner stone and as His disciples we will suffer His sufferings. When the sufferings come your way, how will your attitude be toward suffering righteously. Will it be with song and singing?
Never thought of singing during an emotional situation where all your focus is on the problem. I cannot really change the problem so I guess I have two choices trust God or my situation, that I have no control over. I will learn to trust God for all I have to gain is all of Him and less of me. I might not understand the situation but I can learn to rely on the Lord. Great teaching!
