Sharing The Love Of Christ

We are to share the love of Christ with others. But what does that mean? What is the primary purpose of sharing Christ Jesus or spreading God’s love?

Why Do We Share The Love of God?

Salvation is why we share the love of God. John 3:16 says, God loved the world and gave “His only begotten Son.” Jesus does not stop there. He goes on to say;

John 3:17 KJV For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

There is a why behind the Son of God coming to the earth. God wants us to know His love, but there is a barrier. What is it? We all stand guilty before God for the crime of unbelief. The penalty for the sin of rejecting God is death. We all deserve to die because everyone has committed the sin of unbelief (Romans 6:23; 3:23). However, false teaching has led to a false understanding of God’s love. God is merciful and full of lovingkindness, but He is also just, holiness and wrath.

Jesus is the perfect example of sharing the gospel [His Father’s love]

Genesis 3 is the first place we find a Messiah is coming. The birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ fulfilled this prophecy. The Jews knew their Messiah was coming, but not like this. When their Messiah came, He did not match what they expected. The result was, they rejected Him.

Why is this important to you and I?

The majority of teaching on Christ today is not the biblical Christ.

John 16:8 KJV And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

Sharing the love of Christ has no real meaning without the bad news. John chapter 3 tells us we must be born again by the Holy Spirit. John chapter 16 tells us our part.

Jesus is in His final hours of being with His disciples. He will be crucified the next day. The teaching here was for the disciples and every believer. As we are to spread the gospel as well. Jesus has been telling the disciples He will die and leave them.  What would they do? How would they know what to do?  John 14:15-18; 15:26 give us the answer. One is coming from heaven Who is exactly like Christ. It is the Holy Spirit.

What does the Holy Spirit do?

He convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. That is, the Holy Spirit came and He declared the world guilty.

What is the sin?

Unbelief in the name of  the Son of God is the sin all people commit. They love the darkness instead of the Light, Christ (John 3:19).  How does the Holy Spirit convict the world?  Romans 10:17 tells us faith comes to someone by hearing. Not hearing just anything but hearing the word of God. A person has their eyes opened by the Holy Spirit to their status as one who is a criminal. One who has broken God’s law. So, convict in this scripture is judicial, as in a court of law. It is not about feeling bad but is an established fact. A convicted person is guilty.

Whose righteousness will God accept?

Jesus tells His disciples He is going away to His Father, and they will see Him no more. What does this mean?

This means “I’m a good person” is a lie. If my good works outweigh my bad, God will let me into heaven, which is a lie. Bible verses such as Isaiah 64:6, Romans 3:10, tell us this is a lie. The only Person Whoever lived without sin is Jesus the Christ. No one enters heaven unless the righteousness of Christ has been imputed to them. The righteousness of Christ is imputed to someone through faith (1 Corinthians 1:30).

Do You See Suffering As a Good Thing?

Philippians 3:8 KJV Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Paul was absolutely concrete in his belief on how to get to heaven. That is, until Jesus changed his mind (Acts 9). Paul now says, my view was useless, worthless, and garbage. It is in Christ, by faith, that I am righteous before God.

There is the guilty sentence of unbelief, the proof we are all guilty of unrighteousness, and the proof we are under judgment.

Satan is the deceiver

Revelation 20:10 KJV  The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

God has judged Satan guilty (John 16:11). Christ defeated him at the cross (Colossians 2:15). What does that have to do with me?

Ephesians 2:1-3 KJV 1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

In our unbelief, we desire the worldly system, which is ruled by Satan. Thereby, we are slaves to the devil, the world, and our flesh. This makes us children of wrath.  How was God’s holy justice and mercy harmonized?

What Is Sharing The Love Of Christ?

Psalm 85:10 KJV Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

This is part of the true gospel. Truth is the way to God’s love. Sin must be judged, that is truth. Which means leaving out some of the truth of the gospel is leaving out all the gospel.

In conclusion, we are sharing the love of Christ with people who are dying in their sin with no way out through their own efforts.

2 Timothy 2:25-26 KJV 25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

A believer shows God’s love by telling the unsaved their true eternal destination. They tell them that repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only way out of darkness.
