Pastor says, “God is you, and you are God” Can man become God?

Home / Daily Biblical News / Pastor says, “God is you, and you are God” Can man become God?

How many sermons have you heard that say “you are God”, “God is you” or “man can become God?” All these statements are based on Genesis 3:4-5, “For God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” From this time forward, man has tried to bring God down to their level, and man to God’s level. We are the image of God, but we can never be God.

Below is a sermon, one of many, of a pastor named “Rev. Dr. Caleb J Lines” who is promoting this very idea.

The sermon – “God is gay, lesbian, transgender, black…”

Says “God is gay. God is a lesbian. God is trans. God is gender non-binary. God is straight. God is cisgender. God is black. God is white. God is middle eastern. God is Asian. God is differently able, mentally and physically. God is able bodied. God is you, and you are God, because you are a reflection of God’s divine image.

Is the god described in this video the living Lord God of holy scripture?

No, the bible says; “the Lord, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts; I am the First and I am the Last; besides me there is no God (Isaiah 44:6).”

Are these statements a true representation of Who the living God is?

No, the Bible say’s; “You are my witnesses, says the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am he. Before me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after me (Isaiah 43:10).”

The Bible Has an Answer about Us and God

It takes one command to find the answer. God commands us not to lie.

Exodus 20:16 BSB; You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Why would He give that command? Because every person has a wicked and lying heart (Jeremiah 17:9-10).

Psalm 58:2-3 BSB; No, in your hearts you devise injustice; with your hands you mete out violence on the earth. 3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; the liars go astray from birth.

The heart, mind, and will of everyone thinks they can be god. That is, we believe we have the right to decide what is good and evil (Genesis 3:4).

Romans 3:11-18 describes our immoral and hostile attitudes toward God and life.

God Cannot Lie

John 14:6, Hebrews 6:18, Titus 1:2 tell us lying is something God cannot only not do, but it is an impossibility. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the TRUTH, and the life” (John 14:6).

Numbers 23:19 BSB; God is not a man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind. Does He speak and not act? Does He promise and not fulfill?

Can God be Man?

This one commandment clearly reveals God is not us. God sent the only true and perfect representation of Himself

Colossians 1:15-20 BSB; The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and firstborn from among the dead, so that in all things He may have preeminence. 19 For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through the blood of His cross.

Jesus, fully God and fully Man, is the exact representation of the invisible God.

Jesus is the only one who lived a sinless life. Man cannot be righteous on their own. It is, through saving repentance and saving faith in the Son of God, we receive the righteousness of Christ Jesus. Through the blood of Christ, we have forgiveness (Ephesians 1:7).

When we believe in our heart that Jesus died, and was resurrected, we are saved (Romans 10:9-10). Our salvation is shown when we confess Jesus is Lord. Therefore, we will not live a sinless life this side of heaven. Which means, God is not us, and we cannot represent God on our own.

Do not be deceived. Romans 1:18-32 gives each step taken until someone becomes deep in deception.

God’s word, not a person, is the truth (John 17:17, Psalm 119:160). Read, study and learn the original meanings of the words yourself.

Who is God?

Who is God? – The Fact
The fact of God’s existence is so conspicuous, both through creation and through man’s conscience, that the Bible calls the atheist a “fool” (Psalm 14:1). Accordingly, the Bible never attempts to prove the existence of God; rather, it assumes His existence from the very beginning (Genesis 1:1). What the Bible does is reveal the nature, character, and work of God.

Who is God? – The Definition
Thinking correctly about God is of utmost importance because a false idea about God is idolatry. In Psalm 50:21, God reproves the wicked man with this accusation: “You thought I was altogether like you.” To start with, a good summary definition of God is “the Supreme Being; the Creator and Ruler of all that is; the Self-existent One who is perfect in power, goodness, and wisdom.”

Who Does God Say I Am?

The more we study the Word of God, the more we discover who we are in Christ. We are transformed into the person God says we are when we make Jesus Christ the pursuit of our lives: “So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image” (2 Corinthians 3:18, NLT; see also Romans 8:29; 12:2; Philippians 1:6; Ephesians 4:15).

Who Is Like God?

When God asks the rhetorical question, “Who is like Me?” in Jeremiah 49:19, He means that He is incomparable—there is no one like Him. The entire segment (Jeremiah 49:19–21) is nearly identical to Jeremiah 50:44–46, with the same rhetorical questions repeated: “Who is like me and who can challenge me? And what shepherd can stand against me?” (Jeremiah 50:44).

In Jeremiah 49, the prophet pronounces God’s judgment on the nation of Edom for its pride and prejudice. When the Lord’s gavel falls on Edom, no one will be able to stop the destruction because there is none like Yahweh in all the earth. No one has the strength or power to challenge Him. God is matchless, and it is impossible to compare anything or anyone to Him.

Earlier, Jeremiah had recognized, “No one is like you, LORD; you are great, and your name is mighty in power. Who should not fear you, King of the nations? This is your due. Among all the wise leaders of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is no one like you” (Jeremiah 10:6–7).

Can Humans Become God

It is impossible for human beings to become God. This false promise was given to Eve back in the Garden of Eden. The reason humans cannot become God has to do with the nature of God. God, is God by nature. He did not become God at some certain point in time. Human beings are finite. There was a time when human beings did not exist but there has never been a time when God has not existed. It is the difference between the creature and the Creator.

The Book of Job is an Example of Knowing God

Job is someone who thought he knew God, because of outward circumstances. But in his suffering he came to personally know who God is.

Job 42:1-6 BSB; Then Job replied to the LORD: 2 “I know that You can do all things and that no plan of ours can be thwarted. 3 You asked, ‘Who is this who conceals My counsel without knowledge? Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. 4 You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak. I will question you, and you shall inform Me. 5 My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You. 6 Therefore I retract my words, and I repent in dust and ashes.”

bible tells us in 1 Corinthians Where Wisdom Can be Found

The Message of the Cross

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”

20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know Him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

22 Jews demand signs and Greeks search for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.

Wisdom from God

26 Brothers, consider the time of your calling: Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were powerful; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 He chose the lowly and despised things of the world, and the things that are not, to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast in His presence.

30 It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God: our righteousness, holiness, and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

  1. People who create their own version of Jesus grieve me..
They are teaching others to blindly do the same.
2 Peter 2:2-3 tells us that if they do not repent their damnation does not slumber..
Thank you for your teaching that is Biblical..
