Pastor Sherwood was arrested not for refusing to come down from the steps but, according to the police, on the grounds of section 5 of the Public Order Act, namely that he had been causing alarm and distress.
All through the book of Acts the apostles, including Paul, were persecuted. Opposition to the gospel followed Paul everywhere he went (Acts 9:29, 13:50, 14:5, 16:22, 18:12, 21:36, 22:22). But in nations that stood for freedom of speech there was no real persecution. But it is evident things are now changing rapidly.
We are asking the same question that one of the church helpers ask, ‘What has happened to us as a nation that a man can no longer preach from the Bible?’ The answer is really very simple.
“THERE is a great need to raise awareness of how the police in modern Britain are clamping down on the freedom of Christians to proclaim in public places the teachings of the Scriptures.”
We think we are so modern or progressive with all our technology and man-made philosophies and ideals. Built into this thinking comes the idea the bible no longer relates to our time and ways. And those who hold to the old outdated doctrine of scripture, only spread hate. Why?
Hebrews 4:12-13 NASB1995 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.
People hate scripture because,
“the Bible’s description of homosexuality as sinful is plain and clear-cut.”
The reality remains, we have not gone forward in our ways. Instead we have and will continue to come full circle. When decision time comes your way, what will your answer be?
