Does Mystic, Spiritual and New Age belong in Christianity

Home / Daily Biblical News / Does Mystic, Spiritual and New Age belong in Christianity

Mystic, spiritual and new age teaching is now integrated in the church. These teachings are denying the the True Word of God. The bible tells us clearly not to do this in Deuteronomy 4:2 and Revelation 22:18-19. However, this is common and this type of teaching is being accepted among many people.

An article titled “New Age Beliefs Are Common in America and in Our Churches” states “According to a new survey, New Age beliefs are common in America, even among people who are highly religious in traditional ways.”

To understand this better let’s look at some of the New Age beliefs. New Age embraces:

  1. pantheism– God is in everything,
  2. monism -All things are one,
  3. your experience defines truth.

Of course there are many more but this is enough to help us to know New Age is universalistic, one world, or “lets all get along” belief system. This tells us they can not see Jesus as the only way to God. Great man, greatest teacher ever but they do not believe Jesus is God in flesh. This tells us they do not see any point or have any use for the cross.

When Did New Age Beliefs Begin

This type of belief system has its roots in Genesis 3 and its manifestation in Genesis 11, the tower of Babel. All religions, except true Christianity, come out of the tower of Babel. What is the core belief, they can be god. Since Jesus is not the only way to God, they have to find other ways. These will not include the bible but things outside of God’s word such as reincarnation, talking to the dead, contemplative prayer, mystics, etc. Godless religions are very attractive to the prideful and lustful flesh because it is self-centered.

With New Age gaining ground and the cry for co-existence at any cost, true bible believing believers are seen as hateful and intolerant. The battle is coming to your front door.

Are you willing to stand in Christ against sin? Are you willing to say, there is only one way to God and that is through faith in the Son of God, Jesus?

What Is A Christian

Christianity is exclusive and divisive because the entrance gate is narrow, Jesus, and the path is narrow, God’s ways. Everyone else has gone through the wide gate and are walking on the wide path. These two paths have two different eternal destinations (Matthew 7:13-14).

With the majority of people confessing to be a “Christian” it is helpful to define “Christian” biblically.

Question: “What is a Christian?” Answer: A dictionary definition of a Christian would be something similar to a person professing belief in Jesus as the Christ or in the religion based on the teachings of Jesus. While this is a good starting point, like many dictionary definitions, it falls somewhat short of really communicating the biblical truth of what it means to be a Christian. The word Christian is used three times in the New Testament (Acts 11:26; 26:28; 1 Peter 4:16). Followers of Jesus Christ were first called Christians in Antioch (Acts 11:26) because their behavior, activity, and speech were like Christ. The word Christian literally means, belonging to the party of Christ or a follower of Christ… by GotQuestions.com

Comparing Christianity and Other Beliefs As One

The article titled “Celtic spirituality draws pagans and Christians alike” is disturbing in many ways not the least of which is:

The article states “I think there is an awakening around the country about nature, and I think the institutional Christian church has left a lot of us empty, Jenkins said. He began to seek in (my) pilgrimage outside of the (church) and found that God is right there all around us, in nature.”

This is why it is important to know what being a believer in Christ Jesus really means. When you have received Christ as your Lord and Savior you are filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is love, peace, joy, etc. Jesus says we are to overflow with living water, Himself. We can not be both. We either have been filled with the Holy Spirit or we are empty, hopeless, and without God in this world (Ephesians 2:12). Since God has put in us to find Him when we don’t want to agree with His way we will find our own way.

The old term for New Age and mysticism is Gnosticism. This is a doctrine that is not based on reasoning, logic, or evidence. It is vague and a confusing doctrine with no absolutes.

This belief is not based on the word of God and adding to or taking away from the word of God comes with eternal consequences (Deut. 4:2, Revelation 22:18-19). God says we are to meditate on His word day and night (Psalm 1:1-2). You can not meditate on God’s word and empty your mind to commune with God. The end time church will be works, signs, wonders, and have its foundation on the lies of Satan because God will “send them strong delusion.

Signs Of The Last Days

This is a sign of the last days :

2 Timothy 3:1 KJV This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

2 Thessalonians 2:9 KJV Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

After the rapture, the true church will be gone. The Anti-christ will be in charge and the “church” will be ruled by the False Prophet (Revelation 13).

Where Does True Salvation Come From

True salvation comes by God’s grace through faith alone Ephesians 2:8-10). There are no works that add to our salvation. Our salvation produces works of faith. There are no gimmicks or man made traditions or ways that bring us closer to God. How do we come close to God?

James 4:8 KJV Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Psalm 65:4 KJV Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.

Repent And Come To Christ

There are many more but these give us the basics. Repent and live a holy life before God. Stop trying to follow 2 different thoughts. Your contentment in Jesus Christ should be all you need and your contentment should be in God alone?

John 17:3 KJV And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

The only way to know God is through His word. To understand His word is through the Holy Spirit. Then the only way to receive the Holy Spirit is to be born again (John 3). There is no other way to know God. Eternal life is knowing the “true God” and Jesus as the Messiah.
