Proverbs 1:2 KJV To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; 3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; 4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. 5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: 6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
True wisdom is to respect with the highest respect what God says about the things that go on in our life. How we are to handle them and how to have the right attitude. Occasionally, this is very hard when we are discouraged about something we have been going through for a while. We want the situation or person to change, we have prayed and ask God to change things, and yet things remain the same. So, let’s look at what discouragement is and how we go from discouragement to encouragement.
To be discouraged means to lose hope or courage. When we are discouraged, we feel sad, helpless, and sometimes confused. We begin to think, what is the point. How can we gain hope and courage to meet our challenge?
Philippians 4:6 KJV Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
God will give us hope and encourage us through His word, how. When we are discouraged, we are focusing on the bad, but God says to focus on the good things in our life, and we will be encouraged. Such as, give thanks for those who love you and are there for you instead of focusing on those who hurt you and make you feel bad. What we are doing is we are telling ourselves that the ones who hurt us and make us feel bad are a bad influence. It is what God and those who truly love us say that matters the most.
It is hard to be grateful for the good things when hard things are happening to us, but God promises He will give us strength and courage to meet the troubles in our life.
1 Peter 5:6 KJV Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
We do not always understand what God is doing or why He allows us to go through hard things. However, we are to choose to believe He loves us and will take care of us in a way where the hard is turned to our good.
Hebrews 13:5 KJV Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
