Coal is bad
“In Glasgow in November world leaders promised to stave off climate change and, for the first time, planned to “phase down” coal — the dirtiest fossil fuel.”
“A research venture launched Wednesday will investigate whether Southwest Virginia’s vast supply of coal waste can be turned into high-value raw materials for products like cellphones and electric cars, addressing a need that has grown exponentially in recent years – and that has fueled concerns about the global supply chain.”
So, the government is giving millions of dollars to research how to use waste coal to make batteries.
What will these rechargeable batteries be used for?
Everyone needs an electric car that runs off batteries. Why? It’s the best thing for our planet.
“And while lithium itself isn’t of great concern from a pollution angle, these batteries do contain metals like cobalt, nickel, and manganese. While these metals aren’t as problematic as lead, they are considered toxic heavy metals.”
