Psalm 3 KJV 1 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. 2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. 3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. 4 I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah…keep reading
This Psalm, like many, is a prayer Psalm. It is the prayer of David when his son Absalom turned against him. It is a prayer during a time of hurt and suffering. The betrayal of anyone hurts but the betrayal of a loved one cuts like a deep wound.
You will find the details of the events in 2 Samuel chapters 13-18.
My Broken Heart
When the heart is wounded and shattered into thousands of pieces, our mind and emotions want to stay focused on the injustice and unfairness that brought the pain and suffering. We hold our right to be angry and unforgiving through stubborn pride. Many have taken this stance to find themselves planted in misery. The Lord provides a way past our pain and He can change us through our suffering (2 Corinthians 4:17).
We provide 3 ways to begin:
1. Prayer is the first step that should be taken.
2. Release your thoughts and emotions to God and tell Him the truth.
3. Only God can help you with your brokenness.
Prayer is the first step
When we speak to God with an open and honest heart, these are the prayer He hears.
How does prayer work? …prayer is staying in communication with God—talking to Him, spending time in His presence, and drawing near to Him. Through prayer, we express adoration and thanks to God, we make requests known to Him, we intercede for others, and we learn more about His character and His will for our lives. Learning how prayer works is part of the natural process of growing in our relationship with the Lord. As we develop an active and continuous connection with God our Father through Jesus Christ His Son by the power of His indwelling Spirit, we discover the heart of prayer… by GotQuestions.com
What is the purpose of prayer? Prayer is an important part of the Christian life. It is the way we communicate with the Lord and praise Him. To understand the purpose of prayer, it is important to first understand what prayer is not. There are many wrong views in the world and culture about prayer, even among Christians, and these should be addressed first. Prayer is not
• bargaining with God.
• making demands of God.
• only asking God for things.
• a therapeutic, meditation-type exercise.
• bothering God and taking up His time.
• a way to control the Lord.
• a way to show off one’s spirituality before others.

Once we accept God knows all that is in our heart and we empty our self to Him, we will be able to hear Jesus calling. He will say, come to Me if you are tired of carrying your burdens ( Matthew 11:28-30). Jesus is calling us to take action and go to Him to exchange what we have for what He has. When we are done with our self, it will not matter that people say, God will not help you.
The Heart
Once we, in truth, desperation, and humility, pour out the despair, anger, hate, etc. to God, we find He gives hope of being healed. Jesus Christ is the only One Who is able to solve and put the pieces of our heart back together correctly (Luke 4:18). This is the beginning of trusting Him as our protector and understanding our victory.
Who Will Help Me From My brokenness?
Let your brokenness and hopelessness drive you to know salvation, deliverance, and that the victory belongs to the Lord God Almighty. When in times of great distress knowing who God is brings you understanding and comfort that only He will still your fears and anxieties. Then like David, who says in Psalm;
Psalm 3:5 KJV I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. 6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
We gain confidence we are protected and held in the “righteous right hand” of God (Isaiah 41:10). The love of God is essential to our heart. The love of God gives us real life.
Psalm 86:15 KJV But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.
Romans 8:37 KJV Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 John 4:9 KJV In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
God’s love has unlimited sides but we will not trust His holy love, His disciplining love, His judging love, etc. until we know and experience His saving and protecting love.
God Works In All Things
Romans 8:27-29 BSB 27 And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers.… Berean Study Bible
