Pestilence- a disease that causes many people to die. A contagious or infectious epidemic disease that is virulent and devastating (Merriam-Webster)

What does the bible say about Pestilence
Matthew 24 and Luke 21 describe the same events.

Matthew 24
- People claiming to be Christ
- Wars
Nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom, famine, and earthquake

Luke 21
- People will claim to be Christ
- Wars
Nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom, Violent earthquakes, famines, pestilence, sights of terror and great signs from heaven

These chapters in Matthew and Luke describe the end of the age of grace and what precedes the second coming of Christ Jesus.

What makes the pestilence of today different from the pestilence of the past?
In Matthew 24:8 All this is but the beginning [the early pains] of the birth pangs [of the intolerable anguish].

Jesus says all of the above described events are only the beginning and they will be like labor pains. As the time for Christ’s return gets nearer pestilence will become stronger, bigger and will happen closer and closer together.

This means they will increase in magnitude and frequency.

Today we we read or hear on the news of new super bugs, new viruses, and old diseases that were thought to be under control, however they are coming back stronger and they are all becoming immune to antibiotics.

Why Is There Pestilence
From Exodus to Revelation God makes it clear He sends pestilence upon the earth.

Here are a few: Exodus 9:3, Leviticus 26:25, 2 Samuel 24:13-15, 1 Chronicles 21:14, 2 Chronicles 7:13, Jeremiah 24:10, Revelation 18:8

Pestilence is God’s judgment upon evil and disobedience.
Lev. 26:16, 25.

How far will God Allow this To go?
Revelation 6:8 8 So I looked, and behold, an ashy pale horse [black and blue as if made so by bruising], and its rider’s name was Death, and Hades (the realm of the dead) followed him closely. And they were given authority and power over a fourth part of the earth to kill with the sword and with famine and with plague (pestilence, disease) and with wild beasts of the earth.

God will use famine, pestilence, and wild beasts to judge the earth and ¼ of the population will die during the tribulation.

Man seems to play god a lot these days and science has made much progress but only God is able to make true change and protect us from His judgments.

Psalm 91:3 He Himself will deliver you from the hunter’s net, from the destructive plague.

As A Professing Christian What Is Our Role?
We are to spread the good news of Jesus Christ which gives life to those dead in their sin, gives hope in a dark and dying world, and gives purpose to a meaningless life.
