What Does Your Life Exemplify, part 3
Psalm 1:1 NKJV Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
We have looked at what happens when you stand with the wicked and walk with the sinners. Now we will look at sitting with the mockers or scoffers. The word sit means; to live with, remain, stay, marry (Strong's Concordance). What is it like to have a mocker of God in your life?
The Mockers Character
Proverbs 21:24 NKJV A proud and haughty man—“Scoffer” is his name; He acts with arrogant pride.
No matter how the person acts on the outside, on the inside they are overflowing with rage and godlessness. They are either in your face or have such a good cover that those who do not know them up close and personal are not generally aware of their disrespectfulness and disregard for others.
Proverbs 9:7 NKJV “He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself. 8a Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you;
Prideful people do not embrace correction or discipline from God or anyone. The mocker is offended that someone would even think they are wrong much less need to be held accountable. They will react with insults, ignoring you and their behavior, and hate being held accountable. This can be very hard to discern if you do not live with them because they hide their true heart very well.
This is but a few scriptures God has given in order to warn what life is like with the godless. As we see, the scripture does not paint a flattering picture of their character. Someone with this character makes the same destructive choices over and over blaming anyone but their self. They play the same games that bring strife and peace is shattered in an instant. Again, God is warning against listening, following, or yoking ourselves to such people. However, I know it happens everyday. So, what are we to do when we realize this is not what God wants for me?
How To Rid A Mocker In One's Life
Proverbs 22:10 NCV Get rid of the one who makes fun of wisdom. Then fighting, quarrels, and insults will stop.
We turn from them to God. If they are a friend, family member, etc. let them know you no longer agree with them. Do not argue, but stand in the strength and peace of Christ expecting insults, aggression, isolation, etc.
If it is a spouse (husband-born male, wife-born female), live before them showing you are not grounded on the same foundation. That is, live the gospel for them to see Who your foundation is.
Above all, pray for yourself and them, read your bible in order to have God's word in your heart which will strengthen you. As you stay in scripture The Holy Spirit will comfort you, guide you, and reveal truth to you. Never forget God is your love, peace, and joy. God is your strength and Truth.
There are so many who have no idea the choices they make out of their feelings, fleshly lust, and following the ways of the world will lead them to great and eternal misery. God warns against being yoked to the ungodly because He loves and cares for you. Now you know.
The Mockers Knowledge
Proverbs 19:29 NCV People who make fun of wisdom will be punished, and the backs of foolish people will be beaten.
Punishment is waiting, "will be punished" not might and even if the mocker looks for wisdom their pride keeps them from finding it (Proverbs 14:6). Why?
Proverbs 9:10 NCV “Wisdom begins with respect for the Lord, and understanding begins with knowing the Holy One.
You can't make fun of God and have wisdom ( 1 Corinthians 1:30-31). If you're on this merry go round, faith in Jesus Christ is the only way off.
