What Does Your Life Exemplify, Part 2
Psalm 1:1 KJV Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Last time we looked at the wicked. Believers are not to take advice from those whose heart has not been given to Christ. Now, we will look at standing with sinners.
Who Are The Sinners
In Ecclesiastes 7:20, Romans 3:23, James 2:10, etc. we find that everyone is a sinner. Believers were sinners before God called them out of darkness into the marvelous Light (Jesus Christ).
As a believer I do not ask the ungodly for advice or take my stand with them. That is, there is knowledge the ungodly have that is of value but only if it agrees with the word of God and understood with the attitude of God. I am not to share the same attitude or outlook on life as the ungodly because it is hostile to God. On a personal note, having walked with the wicked and stood with the sinners, I know where it leads.
Galatians 5:19 KJV Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
This is not a complete list but enough. It addresses physical sin, attitude sin, and ungodly words. Sinners indulge their flesh which is in opposition to godly ways.
So, we as believers are not to stand, that is agree, with the actions, attitudes, or words of the ungodly. We are now re-created in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2) and we are a new person on the inside (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Why is this important
It is important because sinners carry guilt and shame which stops them from having true joy and peace. They are ever chasing the elusive happiness. Why, because they have no part in inheriting "the kingdom of God."
Romans 14:17 KJV For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
When believers follow the ways of the world, their view of sin softens which leads to compromise. So when does unacceptable become not that bad. At this point we no longer "hate all sin" (Psalm 97:10) and we no longer look to Christ to set all standards.
This has been happening since the fall of mankind. Cain was the first to decide to set his own standard (Genesis 4).
The question to be ask, do you blend in with the world? What do you see as an acceptable lifestyle? Do those around you see that you are different from them?
I know without doubt to take advice from and stand with sinners as if I have something in common with them, will lead to one place only, destruction.
Proverbs 14:12 KJV There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
