Doctrine Teaching Lost in Translation
The teaching of sound doctrine is not popular today and hasn't been for some years. 2 Timothy 4:1-4 warned us the time would come when sound doctrine would be rejected.
Rejecting sound doctrine
2 Timothy 4:2 NASB preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
Sound doctrine is rejected because the heart does not desire God but desires to hear something new and up with the times. The heart does not want to hear anything that will scare them or make them feel bad. The heart wants only pleasant and feel good about myself scripture.
How do they feed that desire?
What Do They Follow Instead
This has been going on since Christ revealed the mystery of His church. In our time the true Gospel of Christ is deemed no longer valuable or useful. The Gospel of God has been replaced by the gospel of Me, Myself, and I. In other words the gospel of man which is searching out the desires of the flesh.
What is sound doctrine
So, sound doctrine is the balanced teaching of God's word that causes those listening to learn Who God is and His ways. This is done when the bible is taught verse by verse and not topical. Today, however, this is lacking in most church pulpits because people; "will not endure-have patience with, suffer, persist, admit (Strong's Concordance)".
We live in a society of microwave everything so there is the mentality of no patience, no waiting, no suffering, and no endurance. Suffering and endurance are seen as bad because the flesh desires only lazy, comfort, and ease. This is why sound doctrine is rejected and the God of the bible has been changed into a man made God.
Where does unsound doctrine lead
2 Timothy 3:1 NASB But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.
The last days are characterized by a society that has its mind set on one thing, self. There is no doubt we live in a world that, as a majority, looks out for number one.
How does this happen?
When we hear and are taught sound doctrine our mind and heart becomes sound, balanced, and healthy. False doctrine causes our thinking to be handicapped and unable to have good judgment. Our minds become unbalanced and unhealthy. This makes us vulnerable to Satan and his lies.
What is our thinking to be?
1 Peter 5:8 NASB Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.
When true teaching is neglected and rejected it opens the door for the lies of Satan. Not all churches are the bride of Christ irregardless of size.
Sound doctrine keeps
Ephesians 4:14 NASB As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,
Sound doctrine keeps us from following the newest and greatest. It gives us calmness, security, and stability. The believer's heart desires the precepts of God and verse by verse teaching because it feeds and nourishes the soul. Do you know the true living God and Jesus as the Christ?
2 Timothy 1:12 NASB For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. 13 Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
We are to know whom we say we believe.
John 17:1 NASB Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, 2 even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. 3 This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent
