Who Shall Deliver Me
Do you associate salvation with deliverance? What are we delivered from and can we deliver (save) ourself outside of the cross of Christ?
Salvation is being delivered from the wrath and judgment of God. Salvation can not be accomplished through "good works".
Psalm 62:1 NASB My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation. 2 He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.
No one earns their salvation or deliverance. Salvation is from God alone.
Colossians 1:13 NASB For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Acts 26:17 NASB rescuing you from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you, 18 to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.
What this means is salvation is the complete and finished deliverance from the kingdom of darkness and God moving the saved into the kingdom of God.
Believers are, at the moment of salvation, rescued out of darkness and moved into the position of being under the sovereignty and dominion of God. Then, through the blood of Jesus Christ, we are no longer seen as guilty by God, we become a member of God's family and a co-heir with Christ Jesus. Heaven is now our eternal destiny.
It is the true gospel of Christ that destroys Satan's power and hold on someone.
This being said, our experience with Jesus Christ, which is what salvation is, does not help us to truly know who Jesus is.
Luke 24:25 NASB And He said to them, "O foolish men and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?" 27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.
Jesus did not say, O.K. you have had an experience with Me now you know Me. No, Jesus explained the scripture to them. What scripture? At this time it was the Old Testament. The Old Testament is God explaining the coming Messiah, Jesus. To actually know Christ we must know properly all of God's word. It is the bible that unfolds the Messiah to us.
Side bar, all bibles are not equal. Do your homework when buying one.
Hebrews 4:12 says God's word is;
3. Sharper than any two edged sword
4. When it cuts it is to expose our thoughts and intent for judgment
The bible is every believers source to know the unmoving and unchangeable God.
Without true knowledge and wisdom there is confusion. Were there is confusion there is doubt. Were there is doubt there is fear. Were there is fear the mature love of God is not found (1 John 4:18). This gives way for the lies of Satan. The last thing Satan wants out as public knowledge is, he is already defeated and he and the fallen angels live in fear of the time they will be thrown into the lake of fire for eternity (Revelation 20:10, 14-15).
Psalm 95:1 NASB O come, let us sing for joy to the Lord, Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
Those who have been delivered, rescued, saved from the incurable disease called sin will worship Christ Jesus with a heart full of joy and gratitude. He will by His own be worshipped in "spirit and truth."
