Armour of God - Belt Of Truth, Part 4
Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,
In Greek the word truth means - not merely truth as spoken truth of idea, reality, sincerity truth in the moral sphere, divine truth revealed to man (bible hub) ----> In the Greek culture the word truth (Alethea) was synonymous for reality as the opposite of illusion (HELPS - Word-studies)
To a believer the word of God is their reality. God's word will continue to come to pass as all the prophecies have in the bible. God does not need mankind to validate He is the Truth. God's Truth is validated in the hearts of believers.
Acts 5:38 Now in the present case let me say to you, stand off (withdraw) from these men and let them alone. For if this doctrine or purpose or undertaking or movement is of human origin, it will fail (be overthrown and come to nothing); 39 But if it is of God, you will not be able to stop or overthrow or destroy them; you might even be found fighting against God!
Daniel 4:34...b His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal. 35 All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He does as he pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth. No one can stop him or say to him, ‘What do you mean by doing these things?’
Why is this important? This is important because once salvation is received, we enter into war with Satan and our carnal nature. This means that once we are in Christ we cannot be seperated from God again. No one can stop us from being in God's hands. Yes, our flesh is dead but is hasn't accepted the death certificate yet.
The truth about our flesh
Galatians 5:16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
The flesh is rebellious to the ways and thoughts of God. Our flesh hates the desires of the Holy Spirit and is in constant conflict with the Holy Spirit to stop obedience to God. However, a believers life is to be habitually under the guidance and control of the Holy Spirit. This is how we make sure our flesh is not allowed dominance and reminds us our flesh has been crucified with Christ, is dead, and we are a new creation in Christ.
In verses 19-21 of Galatians 5 we are given a description of the desires and ways of our flesh. In verses 22-23 we are given the character of the Holy Spirit. As you can see the character and desires of the flesh and the Holy Spirit are in complete opposition of one another.
The truth is salvation completely changes the core of a person. Salvation does not improve our carnal nature but we are re-created in Christ Jesus. So those in Christ have the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit will convict of sin and guide our life so we are in obedience to the commands of God. All of this does not stop the attacks of Satan from coming our way and he is looking to devour you.
1 Peter 5:8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.
Being attacked by Satan is not uncommon to believers so you are not alone. Peter and the disciples of Jesus knew first hand the severity and power of the attacks by Satan (Luke 22:31). The belt of truth holds everything in its proper place. This is why we must know God's reality and not the opinions, feelings, and wisdom of man.
We are at all times engaged in inner war with our flesh and spiritual war with Satan. Satan will come after our faith in Christ Jesus to blur God's truth and attempt to cause doubt and disobedience. Believers find their reality in the true living God, Jesus as the Christ, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 31:5 I entrust my spirit into your hand. Rescue me, Lord, for you are a faithful God.
Psalm 119:160 Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.
God is faithful to His word and His every word is truth.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Jesus is the truth.
John 16:12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. In these verses we have God- the Holy Spirit, God- the Son, and God- the Father. One God three persons and all are called truth.
John 17:17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
God's word is truth
The armor of God is for believers to stand and walk in truth. Believers truth is God. The belt of truth is God- the Father, God- the Son, God- the Holy Spirit. It is God's word that sanctifies believers because God's word is truth.
Grounding yourself in God's truth will bring to you the reality that through Jesus the Christ you are warring from the place of victory. We are not fighting to obtain victory, we are fighting to stand in the victory we have in Christ.
Believers in Christ
John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Jesus gives us the right to become a child of God.
Ephesians 1:5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
Through Christ we are adopted as sons.
Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
When we are sons of God, then we are heirs of God and joint heirs WITH Christ. Part of our being in union with Christ is, we will suffer WITH Him.
Romans 6:5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
In Christ we no longer live in habitual sin.
1 John 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
As a child of God we will one day be like Him. This is a short list of God's promises. We look forward to the day we will be like Christ but for now we are engaged in war, we live on the battlefield in Christ.
