Where Is Doctrine In The Bible?
In the Holy Bible the word Doctrine is found and in the New King James Version. It has the word doctrine 42 times and 4 times in the Old Testament.
The rest are in the New Testament.
Doctrine is the foundation to Christianity.
What Is Doctrine?
Biblical doctrine teaches us what we are to believe. Our teacher is not our feelings or experiences. How do we know this?
Proverbs 4:2 KJV For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
God’s word is good teaching. We are to follow His commands.
Is Doctrine The Same as Historical Facts?
It has been proven through historical facts that Jesus came and died. However, this is not doctrine. Doctrine is, Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and resurrected on the third day. (1 Corinthians 15:3)
Where Do We Find Christian Doctrine?
We find christian doctrine in scripture.
2 Timothy 3:16 KJV All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
God has spoken to us through scripture. Which part of scripture? All of the bible was “God breathed.” This makes all of God’s word without error and a necessary part of a believers life.
John 17:17 KJV Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Is God’s Word The Truth?
God’s word is the truth and cleanses us inside out.
John 14:6 KJV Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus is the Truth. No one comes before God as Father except through faith in the Son of God.
John 1:1 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…..14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Jesus is God in flesh. Jesus is the Word in flesh. This is sound doctrine. False doctrine disagrees that Jesus came as the God-Man. And Jesus being the only way to heaven is out of the question. False and twisted doctrine leads down the path of destruction. (2 Peter 3:16-18)
Does False Doctrine Go Against God?
Yes, false doctrines goes against the doctrines of God. It is the commandments and traditions of men or rituals that fill the void. God calls this useless worship. We will begin idol worshipping if we do not worship God in spirit and in truth.
Mark 7:7 KJV Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. 8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. 9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
True Worship Recognizes God’s Sovereignty
1 Corinthians 8:6 KJV But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
Christian doctrine focuses on God. Sound doctrine teaches Who God is and how all things relate to God. False doctrine will not keep God in His place of sovereignty.
Psalm 19:7 KJV The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. 8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. 12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
