Biblical Bible Teachings

Our Bible studies teach and answer questions about our Lord and Savior. Whether you are a new believer or a longtime believer, the Word of God is always relevant. With this understanding, we believe God’s word is infallible. Therefore, we know that God holds us to a higher accountability for teaching His word. With this in mind, our Bible studies are doctrinal, and we do not add to or take away from His word.

Our hope is for you to understand two key things:

  1. Who Jesus Christ is, and
  2. What it means to be a follower of Christ.

When studying the word of God, you will find a running theme from Genesis to Revelation. The theme is knowing the truth about Jesus Christ (John 20:31). Knowing who Jesus is will ground us in our identity in Him.

Who is Jesus in the Bible?

According to the Bible, Jesus is:

  • Son of God (Luke 1:35, 1 John 5:12-13, John 1:49). God spoke from heaven, declaring Jesus is His Son (Matthew 3:17).
  • Son of man (John 5:27, John 12:34, Matthew 24:30). The apostle John, through the Holy Spirit, tells us Jesus is God clothed in flesh (John 1:1, 14).
  • God and Savior (Luke 1:47, 1 Timothy 1:1). The apostles who lived with Him for 3 years being taught by Him personally say He is “our God and Savior” (Titus 2:13; 2 Peter 1:1).
  • Holy One (Acts 3:14; Psalm 16:10). Jesus is the Holy One. He is the sinless, spotless lamb of God.
  • Word (John 1:1; 1 John 5:7-8). For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
  • Word of God (Revelation 19:12-13, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, Hebrews 4:12) is another name for Jesus.
  • Word of Life (1 John 1:1) is only through Jesus, for He gives true and eternal life.
  • Light of the World (John 8:12) does not walk in darkness and has the light of life.
  • Jesus Himself says who He is. He tells the Jews, “I and the Father are One.” The religious leaders of the day understood perfectly who He was claiming to be (John 10:30-38).
  • Judge (Acts 10:42; 2 Timothy 4:8).

These are but a few scriptures that tell us who Jesus is. But does this help you to know who Jesus is? Some say yes, and some say no. The truth is, to know who Jesus is in the Bible requires one to believe He came as God in the flesh.

Scripture Tells Us Who Jesus is

For scripture speaks clearly of who Jesus is, His purpose, and the future. Jesus himself says, He was not created but always was and is claiming to be God (John 8:58).

In Matthew 16:13-17, is an example of Jesus asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” The disciples respond to Jesus question. But Jesus does not stop there. He then asked, “What about you? Who do you say I am?” Peter says, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” How did Peter know this? Because God, the Father, reveals the truth to him.

It takes a personal walk between you and the Lord to understand who Jesus is. The very same question came to me at one time: Jesus asked me, “Who am I to you?” Are you also being asked this question? It is a question Jesus is asking each person today.

Who Are We in Christ?

The Bible talks about who we are in Christ. Who we are in Christ is:

  • Child of God (John 1:12, John 8:47, 1 John 5:1).
  • Salt of the Earth (Matthew 5:13).
  • His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10).
  • Friends (John 15:15).
  • Branches (John 15:5).
  • Sons of God through Faith (Galatians 3:26).
  • Justified (Romans 3:24, Titus 3:7).
  • Sanctified (John 17:19, Hebrews 2:11, 1 Corinthians 6:11).
  • Glorified (Romans 8:29-30; 1 Corinthians 6:11).
  • God’s chosen ones (Colossians 3:12, Matthew 24:22).
  • Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27, Ephesians 4:12).

These are but a few scriptures telling us who we are and what we have in Christ.

Knowing who we are in Christ begins when we are born again from above. Receiving faith in Christ through grace means in Christ we die to our sin nature. In Christ we are made or re-created into a brand new being (2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:10). We are set apart and given new life we have never known before (Romans 6:4). This new life is who we are in Christ, because Christ is now our identity.

If you do not know who Christ is, then we recommend reading our “How to Receive Salvation through Jesus Christ” and “What Does It Mean to Surrender to the Lord?

what does the bible say about your heart and mouth?
What does the bible say about your Heart and mouth?

The Bible says our heart and mouth play a massive role in our daily lives. When we talk, some of us pay attention to what comes out of our mouths, and some don’t. We say things we don’t mean, gossip, boast, and the list goes on. The Bible will reveal that what you say truly is what you mean, and it comes from the heart. Therefore, let’s learn if what you say matters. Does What You Say Matter? Yes, because what we say either honors or disrespects God. Our words have the power to encourage people or to destroy them. The saying “sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt me” is a lie. This is …
What Does it Mean to Surrender to the Lord?
What Does it Mean to Surrender to the Lord?

To surrender to the Lord means we give up what we think, want, or feel. When a person surrenders something, then they no longer have full authority over that something. In other words, you put your trust in the Lord and surrender all of your rights to Him. Proverbs 3:5-7 is an example that shows us what happens when we choose to surrender to the Lord. Purpose of the Armor of God and Why We Need It: This bible study also talks about Proverbs 3. When we surrender to God, we are relying on His wisdom, even when things don’t make sense. How do we live this out in our everyday walk with Christ? Let’s take a closer look at …
what does the infallible or inerrant word of God mean
What Does the Infallible Word of God Mean?

The infallible word of God means that God knows the end from the beginning. He does not need to know, understand, learn, grow, or change in any way because He is perfectly Holy. For example, the first place we see that God’s word is indeed infallible is in Genesis. God commanded Adam not to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. However, he did, and since then all humanity now faces death. This shows that God means what He says. So if you are asking, “Is God infallible?” the answer is yes.  Why Does It Matter That God’s Word is Infallible? It matters that God’s Word is infallible because it proves He is the “I …
