Today, artificial intelligence (AI) is making headlines and grabbing lots of attention globally. However, did you know that AI technology is part of the 4th industrial revolution? Why is this important? Because knowing what this revolution is about will draw a bigger picture of what is coming and what they want.

Learn more about “4th Industrial Revolution Breakdown & What Does The Bible Say” to learn more about it.

Artificial intelligence is constantly improving and advancing through the years. Since the release of ChatGPT, AI technology is being incorporated more and more. Even well-established companies are beginning to add artificial intelligence to their products. AI is here to stay.  So, what does this have to do with the Bible.

There are several reasons:

  1. They want artificial intelligence to interact with people and think like humans.
  2. As AI becomes integrated in products, this is going to cause some issues down the road.
  3. People are replacing their thinking with the AI think tank.

Before we get to this biblically, let’s first take a brief look at why artificial intelligence (AI) was created and how it works. This will establish a foundation for what is coming and what the word of God says.

What Is The Purpose of Artificial Intelligence (why did they create it)?

The purpose of artificial intelligence (AI) is to enable computers to be more human like. They want the AI to think and feel like a human by vicariously understanding how humans operate.

Vicariously means – 2a: serving instead of someone or something elseVicarious in Latin Means – If you act in someone’s stead, you take his or her place, at least temporarily… [1]

They want the AI to learn, solve problems, and make decisions in the same way that humans do. In the article, it says;

“It aims to promote the development of artificial intelligence and give computers human advanced cognitive abilities, so that computers can recognize emotions, understand human feelings, and eventually achieve dialog and empathy with humans and other artificial intelligence.” by Frontiers [2]

Empathy means – 1: the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another of either the past or present without having the feelings, thoughts, and experience fully communicated in an objectively explicit manner [3]

The video below puts in plain English what artificial intelligence is.

How Does Artificial Intelligence AI Work?

Artificial Intelligence works by humans inputting content into the AI machine. It is like playing a memory game and flashcards. When the image is shown, you have to guess what the image is or match the image with the same image. That is precisely what computer scientists do with the AI machine. They feed it various types of data and input what the data is. They want the AI to mimic human thinking as much as possible.

When using products like Jasper, ChatGPT, Hyperwrite, Chatbots, Gmail, Siri and so forth, they use AI to interact with humans in some way. To know which type of AI used will be beneficial. Here are the different types.

  1. Reactive AI
  2. Limited Memory
  3. Theory of Mind
  4. Self-Aware

Other types of names used to describe AI are called weak, general, and super.

The following terms are pretty commonly used and often associated with the four AI types described in this article:
Narrow AI or weak AI: This is the type of AI that exists today. It is called narrow because it is trained to perform a single or narrow task, often far faster and better than humans can. “Weak” refers to the fact that the AI does not possess human-level, i.e., general intelligence. Examples of narrow AI include: chatbots, autonomous vehicles, Siri and Alexa, recommendation engines.
Artificial general intelligence (AGI): Sometimes referred to as “strong AI,” AGI is a type of as-yet unrealized multifaceted machine intelligence that can learn and understand as well as a human can.
Artificial superintelligence: This refers to AI that is self-aware, with cognitive abilities that surpass that of humans. [4]

Hyperwrite is an example of a weak AI. We asked Hyperwrite “How Does Artificial Intelligence Work.” This was the response it gave.

Shifting focus to the realm of artificial intelligence, it is crucial to understand how it functions in today’s world. At its core, artificial intelligence (AI) is a field of computer science that seeks to create systems and machines capable of mimicking human-like cognitive functions, such as learning, problem-solving, and decision-making. AI systems achieve this by processing vast amounts of data through complex algorithms, enabling them to draw patterns and conclusions that guide their actions. As technology continues to evolve, the impact of artificial intelligence expands across various industries, often transforming the ways in which humans live and work.

What is ChatGPT and How does it Work?

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) that answers questions, solves problems, writes code, and much more. It is an AI that is “designed to generate human-like responses.[6] It is considered a weak AI, although some may think it acts like an AGI. According to an article by Medium, it says;

ChatGPT is not yet AGI, so-called, artificial general intelligence. And it may have some fundamental limitations. But here I argue we might get early GPT-based AGI around 2024. [7]

Since the release of ChatGPT in 2022, you will see an increase in companies using this technology in the year of 2023.

The internet already abounds with ideas for how to put ChatGPT’s human-like dialogue to use, from creating custom chatbots to help fight traffic tickets to creating workout and diet plans. [5]

As they continue to advance this technology, their ultimate goal is to have an AI that thinks on its own.

“Due to the imperfections of existing artificial intelligence, this manuscript summarizes and clarifies that artificial intelligence system combined with cognitive psychology is the research direction of artificial intelligence.” by Frontier [2]

Which means, people will no longer rely on their cognitive ability. It does this by replacing the research people should be doing on their own to learn the subject.

For example, have you noticed some no longer remember phone numbers, how to navigate a paper map, how to drive a car without technology, or how to write a full paper on their own?

Below, we have added videos to further explain this AI.

Artificial Intelligence Replacing Human Cognitive Function

Artificial intelligence is being looked at to replace human cognitive function. How do we know this? Because in an article titled “This is How Artificial Intelligence Will Influence the Human Mind” says;

Experts are considering how this transformation influences our mental processes and how it will affect the lives of human beings and their way of behaving and of thinking.

Many studies have already shown that constant interactions with technology are changing our brain—they influence the information we remember, our sense of physical orientation and even the things that make us happy.

But if, instead of making that effort, we ask Siri—virtual assistants are one of the most popular showpieces of artificial intelligence in recent years—we do not have to do that memory exercise and little by little the mechanisms of information retrieval become obstructed.

…Harvard University had already named this phenomenon the Google Effect… [8]

Simply put, when researching content, you ask the AI a series of questions and the AI will provide information on the subject you inquired about. When relying on AI tools to do research and find information, we lose our cognitive functions and it’s changing our brain. Therefore, AI will never replace the actual human mind. Why?

Because, when you do the research and problem-solving, your cognitive functions engage. You are learning, using your thinking, and your reasoning all at the same time so that it makes sense. So that you can come to a complete thought. The reliance will be on the work you have done instead of the AI. Therefore, in your decision-making, you will make up your mind and come to a decision. Below, we have provided definitions to enhance understanding.

Research – diligent inquiry or examination in seeking facts or principles; laborious or continued search after truth
Cognitive – knowing, or apprehending by the understanding
Think – 3. to call anything to mind, to remember 5. to form an opinion by reasoning; to judge; to conclude; to believe
Learn – to gain knowledge or information of; to ascertain by inquiry, study, or investigation; to fix in the mind, to learn the truth about something
Problem-Solving– synonym- investigate
Decision-Making – 2. the act of settleing or terminating 4. unwavering firmnessby

God and Technology

God created us to think, make decisions, have convictions, and know right from wrong. They are trying to create an AI to replicate the human mind.

Experts are considering how this transformation influences our mental processes and how it will affect the lives of human beings and their way of behaving and of thinking. [8]

As this technology evolves to become more human like, people’s minds will no longer have the ability to function the way God created it. This technology is everywhere. For example, IoT, which connects to smart technology.

‘In the future we might see the first cults and religions in history whose revered texts were written by a non-human intelligence. [9]

Why should we be leary about this? Because an AI does not have a soul, and it does not have any godly convictions or true knowledge of good and evil. An AI may appear to be smart and learning, but it is devoid of God. Those who teach and preach God’s word are to do so out of the wisdom and knowledge given them through the Holy Spirit.

This type of technology has many uses, but one of them should not be to teach the word of God.

Yes, they can write a passably competent sermon. But no, they can’t replicate the passion of actual preaching.

“It lacks a soul – I don’t know how else to say it,” said Hershael York, a pastor in Kentucky…

Lazy pastors might be tempted to use AI for this purpose, York said, “but not the great shepherds, the ones who love preaching, who love their people.” [10]

The bible is clear about those who teach His word. They will be held to a higher accountability than others.

James 3:1 BSB; Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

Just remember, Satan knows the Bible and can quote it. An AI can quote the Bible too. However, neither of them comes from a biblical viewpoint. Technology will never be a Berean. It is up to the person to learn His word. We are to be a Berean.

Be a Berean – Learn About Christ

To be a Berean came from Acts 17. These people are an example of how someone should respond to bible teaching.

Acts 17:11-12 Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true. 12 As a result, many of them believed, along with quite a few prominent Greek women and men.

Therefore, God saw the people in Berea as honorable. Why? Because they were happy about what they heard. And they studied scripture every day to make sure what they heard was the truth.

The scripture the Bereans studied was the Old Testament. Which makes the Old Testament as important as the New Testament. We are to be like the Bereans studying both the Old and New Testament. They did not put their faith in Paul. And we are not to put our faith in a person or a machine but in God alone.

The lack of individual study of God’s word will lead to deception. It is our responsibility to know God’s word. One becomes a fool if they are uninformed of God’s knowledge and wisdom.

Proverbs 1:7 BSB; The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Bible Talks About Lack of Knowledge (Fool) and Its Effects

The bible talks about having a lack of knowledge and how it will affect our decisions. Hosea 4:6 says people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because they refused to learn and chose to forget God. Those who hate godly wisdom, knowledge, and discipline are called fools (Proverbs 1:2,7,22). A fool says there is no God (Psalm 14:1; 53:1). So, what is a biblical fool? Someone who is just stupid, causing them to repeat the same mistakes over and over (Proverbs 12:1).

What is human reasoning in this context? It is looking at things from the human perspective—consciously or unconsciously leaving God out of the picture. It is trying to figure out spiritual things on our own. It is looking at the trials of this life with just our physical senses—without “seeing” the unseen hand of God in the picture. Human reasoning can even be assuming that God sees things as we see them. [11]

When a person or nation turns their back on God, God dulls their hearing. The true word is being spoken, and the bibles are there, but the people do not hear it. This makes them a fool. Causing sin to engulf everything and destroy all it touches. A machine might be worldly smart, but it is a fool when it comes to the word of God.

A machine can write a sermon, write a bible study, and find scripture relating to a topic. The person can go and repeat what was written with passion and charisma. But that is not the same as the individual studying, reading, and pondering the scripture until it cuts their heart and soul. It will be that person who speaks with true knowledge, conviction, and power in the Holy Spirit.

Remember God Has a Plan

Let us remember the purpose and plan God has for us.

John 17:3 BSB; Now this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

1 john 5:13 BSB; I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

You cannot come to what you believe without investigating and studying prayerfully the word of God. There is no knowledge or understanding of God’s word without sacrificing yourself. This includes your mind, will, and emotions.

Matthew 22:7 BSB; Jesus declared, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

You will never receive the truth of God’s word through an AI. Jesus is coming. If you profess to be a “Christian,” are you a fool or a Berean?

In most cases, it’s quite well and, in some ways better than we know ourselves.

A study by AI experts at Brigham Young University, titled “Out of One, Many: Using Language Models to Simulate Human Samples,” found that predictive AI programs exhibited a striking degree of what they call “algorithmic fidelity,” or precise mapping to actual human behavior.

“Because these AI tools are basically trained on stuff that humans produce, things that we write, documents we make, websites we write, they can reflect back to us a lot of interesting and important things about ourselves,” Ethan Busby, political psychologist and co-author of the study, told The Epoch Times. “Kind of like if someone read your diary from start to finish, they would know a lot of things about you, and you’re not going to like every single thing….

It’s a fundamental part of the internet, but users have hit a critical tipping point: An increasing number of people are losing the ability to distinguish between bots and humans.

It’s a scenario developers have warned about for years, and it’s easy to see why.

A recent study concluded 47 percent of all internet traffic is now comprised of bot-generated content. That’s an increase of more than 5 percent between 2022 and 2021. Concurrently, human activity on the internet just hit its lowest point in eight years….

Last week we presciently discussed the somewhat dystopian outlook for an iris-scanning ‘World ID’ project to identify every human online: “Something like World ID will eventually exist, meaning that you will need to verify [you are human] on the internet, whether you like it or not,” WorldCoin CEO Alex Blania said. Over the weekend that threat (or promise) became a reality as Worldcoin, a project partly created by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, launched the project’s ecosystem token on July 24. The project provides a decentralized and private way to verify human identity online amid the rise of artificial intelligence technologies….

OpenAI revealed Friday a bug exposed some ChatGPT users’ personal information and credit card details to others using the service. The bug was spotted Monday, when a ‘small percentage’ of users this week could see chat titles in their own conversation history that were not theirs – but the issue is much deeper than previously thought.

An online article gives similar information: “For comparison, if your brain worked like a digital video recorder in a television, 2.5 petabytes would be enough to hold three million hours of TV shows. You would have to leave the TV running continuously for more than 300 years to use up all that storage.”

Religious anxieties were distinctly different from those in pop culture and science, however, because potential world-ending conflict was not just mitigated but necessitated and justified by the coming Kingdom of God. Based on traditional apocalyptic thinking drawn from ancient Jewish and Christian texts, American Christians opined that a new and better world was to come. Researchers in robotics and AI adopted that perspective, merging it with the technologies promised in science fiction to create a new religious movement: Apocalyptic AI.

Philosophy expert Eric Schwitzgebel and “nonhuman” intelligence researcher Henry Shevlin wrote an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, arguing that while AI technology is not advanced enough to qualify for nonhuman personhood, it is possible that AI systems could one day exhibit consciousness. In such a scenario, the authors argue that algorithms may require rights akin to those granted to human beings, according to the site Futurism.

This new technology may also have important ramifications for churches and pastors. In the near future AI will provide greater access to religious content and resources, as well as aiding in pastoral activities. AI can parse religious texts and identify trends, allowing pastors to target their sermons for maximum impact.
