Views 167

A new free app from the people behind YouVersion Bible App has gotten more than 265,000 installations in less than three days, making it the second most installed app. Known as the Bible Lens, the free app was launched last Friday. By Sunday evening, Bible Lens was number two on the most installed apps, second only to YouTube: Watch, Listen, Stream and ahead of free apps like Messenger, Snapchat, and Instagram. The Bible Lens app takes relevant Bible verses and matches them with a person's photos, creating visually appealing, sharable artwork, the creators say... more

As we watched this video many thoughts were coming to mind. Here are a few:

1. What does this have to do with the character of our Lord?
2. They make Jesus our Lord sound like some drive through experience
3. Where is the Sovereignty of our Lord

There were many more. As we watched the video, some were saying how cool the app is, so we downloaded it. Here is what we found,

1. you cannot freely use this app
2. this app does not work unless it is has access to your images and your camera.

If you have been reading about technology and false teaching then you understand why this app could raise some red flags. Not sure yet why, here are a few reasons more,

1. The App is in charge of defining God's word
2. Scripture is taken out of context to fit man's ideas
3. They have your images with the new A.I. recognition
4. They have access to your images and camera

Obviously people think this is a great idea, as so does the person who created it. The problem is the scripture that is connected to the picture has nothing to do with God.

Back up! You mean this Bible Lens App is not biblically based?

Yep you read that correctly. Here is the breakdown of why Bible Lens app is not biblically based.

The image above is a picture of a house and below is a picture of a present that is connected to scripture. Could these pictures really go with this scripture? Let's find out what Proverbs 24:3 and Psalm 9:1 means biblically.

House Picture

Proverbs 24:3 NCV It takes wisdom to have a good family, and it takes understanding to make it strong.

This entire Proverb is about living our life within the boundaries of God's integrity and character. The foundation of our home is to be wisdom.

Proverbs 1:7 AMP The [reverent] fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.

Wisdom and knowledge come when we worship God for Who He is not what He gives. Fear of the LORD is the starting point of godly knowledge.

Proverbs 24 can be summed up this way, no matter how beautiful the house and great things look on the outside if your life is not built on the solid Rock (Christ Jesus) it will crumble and be washed away (Matthew 7:24-27).

Present Picture

Psalm 9:1 AMP I will give thanks and praise the Lord, with all my heart; I will tell aloud all Your wonders and marvelous deeds.

When we give thanks and praise to God, He wants our whole heart. That is we gives thanks to Him in the big things, common things, and times of suffering and loss.

The greatest gift ever given was a bloody cross for us to receive forgiveness, the broken body of our Savior so we, in Him, do not pay the penalty for our sins, and the power of His resurrection, to be with Him forever.

Now that you learned what those scriptures biblically mean do you see the difference?

Those promoting this app tell you their goal, "creating visually appealing, sharable artwork,...." This is not the goal of God's word. The goal of God's word simply put is,

Leviticus 20:7 NASB 'You shall consecrate yourselves therefore and be holy, for I am the LORD your God.

1 Peter 1:15 NCV But be holy in all you do, just as God, the One who called you, is holy. 16 It is written in the Scriptures: “You must be holy, because I am holy.”

In the video they use the word city, what city is God talking about? Who is God talking to and why is God saying that? Ask yourself, would these pictures they are showing with scripture work in China, North Korea, Middle East, India, parts of Africa, etc? These countries suffer severly for their faith in Jesus Christ. How would Bible Lens app help them?

Christianity is not an easy, warm, and fuzzy calling,

John 15: 18 NASB “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.

2 Timothy 3:12 NASB Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

The call of Christianity is to be hated and persecuted, yet love and pray for those who do you harm.

1 John 2:15 NASB Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Bible Lens app might be the latest and greatest but it does not have the ability to rightly divide the word of God (2 Timothy 2:15).
