As believers we need protection from a world that is hostile and full of hate toward God, His Son, and those who are His. God as our protecter, has given us armor because we have been called to be a soldier of Christ (2 Timothy 2:3).
When someone joins the military they exchange one life for another and they are trained in the military ways and purposes. A believer, through faith in Jesus the Christ, is in union with Christ and their old life is no more because a new life was given in Christ through the Holy Spirit. So we too exchange one way of life for another.
Our code of honor is the bible which shows us the truth in order to glorify and honor God. Our life shines light on the lies of Satan because Christ Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6), the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of Truth lives in us (John 16:13), and God’s word is truth (Psalm 119:160, John 17:17).
Our old nature was committed to lies and our new life is committed to Truth, God.
Soldiers in the physical military have enemies which they fight against and as believers we have enemies we fight against but our enemy is unseen.
In Ephesians 2:1-3 we see that when we were without faith in Jesus Christ we were bound to the ways of the world, our fleshly desires, and Satan. We were God’s enemy and under His wrath. However, through the miracle of salvation all was reversed, we are no longer God’s enemy. Now the world, our flesh, and Satan are our enemy. That is we war against the powers, rulers, and principalities of the kingdom of darkness. But God has equipped us to be able to stand against the strategies of “the Devil” (Ephesians 6:11). We need this armour because Satan is enraged toward Jesus Christ, God, but He is in heaven now, so his hatred is unleashed on believers. We will see our armour not only comes from God but is God.
We must put on the whole armour of God so as to not be left vulnerable and powerless. What is the whole or full armour?
From this definition we see 3 things,
1) God has given us what we need to be successful
2) it is a spiritual battle, and
3) we do not fight for victory, we fight from Christ’s victory.
The world’s military fights for victory over their enemies but we stand in Christ’s victory. Our armour is for standing successfully to overcome the strategies of the Devil. I will tell you this is easier said than done. What are the “wiles” of the Devil?
This means Satan has pre-set ways of warfare that he follows. Isaiah 14:12-14 tell us he wants to be God. We also learn in Isaiah 14:15 he was defeated by God but he is, temporarily, allowed to rule the kingdoms of the world (Luke 4:5-6).
We find his foundational method laid out in Genesis 3:4-6,
1) God is a liar,
2) you can be God and decide what is good and evil, and
3) what God offers is lacking compared to what you can get from the world.
This is the starting place for every lie and deception he brings to us. What is his goal?
John 10:10 KJV The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Satan’s one goal is to steal truth, kill your soul, and destroy hope. But 2 Corinthians tells us not to allow Satan to take advantage of us and we are not to be ignorant of his methods and goals.
The kingdom of darkness is growing but there will be a rude awaking when the last war is fought and as promised Christ rules and believers live forever with their Prince of Peace, Eternal Father, Wonderful Counselor, and Savior and Lord ( Isaiah 9:5-7). Our victory was blood bought and the armor is given for our success.
Jesus is coming, wear and use your amour to His glory.
