Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
In Greek the word truth means – not merely truth as spoken truth of idea, reality, sincerity truth in the moral sphere, divine truth revealed to man (bible hub) —-> In the Greek culture the word truth (Alethea) was synonymous for reality as the opposite of illusion (HELPS – Word-studies)
The armor of God begins with His truth destroying the lies of Satan. We find the lies of Satan in Genesis 3 and his goal in Isaiah 14. Satan has not changed his military plan against God or God’s people. Though it may appear that Satan’s plan is custom made for each person it still consists of 3 things,
- God lies
- God keeps good things from you
- You should be God.
He lays out his lies to
- kill
- steal
- destroy you. (John 10:10).
Being a born again believer does not change Satan but changes you. You have committed treason against Satan and his hatred of God and His Son is now aimed at you.
Can The Belt of Truth Help Me?
Yes, engaging the belt of truth is the beginning of wearing the armour of God.
Why a belt? The belt of the Roman soldiers held all of their other weapons in place and when they had to run or stand sure footed they would tuck excess material from their clothing in the front of the belt. Think of someone who works with tools. They wear a tool belt to hold the tools they need for easy access.
This is what the belt of Truth is to the believer, that is, it is the foundation for all their other weapons. When truth is off everything else will be also. The question is, what is truth?
What Is The Belt Of Truth?
The belt of truth is a person, who is Jesus (John 14:6, 16:13, and 17:17).
Many ask the question, “What is truth?” Why? Because we are taught that truth and good is relative, that is, whatever you think is true or good.
Another person who ask this question was Pontius Pilate (John 18:37-38). He did not ask seeking truth but out of skepticism.

The belt of truth is Jesus, not what we wish.
Romans 13:14 tells us to put on the Lord Jesus Christ.
In John 14:1 Jesus tells us He is the Way, THE TRUTH, and the Life.
Ephesians 1:13 says, believers heard the word of truth, that is, the gospel of your salvation.
Learning About Truth
Here we have the facts which is reality, that is truth and as you can see they are not based on us in any way. The day Truth came to me I came face to face with the reality I was not who I thought I was. I came face to face with the reality of what it took to save me and I was not deserving.
Ephesians 1:13 says when we received the word of truth, salvation, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit.
John 14:17, 16:13 and others tell us the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and He will tell us the truth in order to glorify Christ (John 16:14).
Numbers 23:19 and Hebrews 6:18 tell us God is truth and that He not only doesn’t lie but He is not able to lie.
Why all these scriptures? To show that when we put on the belt of truth we are putting on God. When Jesus Christ became my Lord and Savior, I was sealed and filled with the Holy Spirit, that is the Spirit of Truth. God’s truth is 
the only way to battle the lies of Satan. You can not have victory combating lies with lies that you believe are true. There are many weak and defeated believers because they do not know they are in a war and they do not know what nor how to use the armour God has given them.
Ephesians 4:20 tells us truth is in Jesus Christ. So, not only is Jesus Himself truth but truth is in Him. This helps us understand the character of Christ, God. Since we have God-the Father, God-the Son, and God-the Holy Spirit living in us we also have truth in us. Not any truth but God’s truth. This is the only way to stand when the blows of Satan come against us. If our truth is not equal to God’s then the other pieces of the armour will not help us because we will have the wrong expectations and use them the wrong way.
Philippians 2:12 KJV Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Belt Of Truth and Satan
The work of Satan is to constantly bring doubt about God and ourself and it can be a horrific war. But God in His rich mercy and great love for us saved us out of those lies and our sin, that is the truth. From that point forward we are to, with humility and respect for God and His work in us, work out what He did inside us. We do that by blasting Satan with the truth of Who God is, Jesus is, and who we now are in Christ.
What did faith in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, God in flesh give us, His righteousness.
Meaning we are now righteous before God and the next piece of armour is the breastplate of righteousness.
Thoughts To Ponder On
Do you stand from the position of Christ’s victory over Satan and your sins? Do you stand in the strength and might of your Lord Jesus Christ? Are you trying to put on the breastplate of righteousness before you have the belt of truth?
God’s truth is hard and in our face but it is absolute and stable. Are you tired of fluid and right and wrong not being on a foundation that never moves. I was and when Jesus came He told me about me and Himself. He is holy and I am not. I will never be holy apart from Him nor will I ever be approved by God the Father without Him. I can’t explain it, but that gave me such peace and joy. It gave me stability.
Finally, when Someone says something it never changes and I can always depend on Him because His word is an unmovable truth. Do you want security, then know your God and Savior personally because then you will know your armour. God is truth have you received the Truth?
