Psalm 1:1 ESV Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
The way to true happiness is stated in verses 1&2.
To be happy we must not;
1. Listen or follow the advice of unbelivers
2. Go to places or participate in things sinners go and do
3. Be able to relax or sit where God is made fun of
What does this mean? God's love and grace want our heart to be happy. However, God's path to happiness is not the same as people's.
As believers we talk to those everyday who give ungodly advice, invite us to sinful places, and wants us to laugh at jokes about God. But these things do not bring true happiness instead they bring guilt. The more we are joined with the ungodly, the deeper our heart loses its hope, joy, and peace. Doesn't have to be! You can choose a different path!
Instead ---> Verse 2 is the way to true happiness. The instead is to love the laws, ways, and commands of God. God's ways are not drudgery but are a pleasure to the heart of the godly. God put the desire in our hearts to be happy and here we are given the how;
1. Delight in His word
2. Think about His word
3. Obey His word
