Do You Know In Whom You Believe
At my job, over the last week people have shared with me some traumatic things that happen in their life. As someone who has come from a traumatic background I understand where they are. As I spoke to them I shared a little bit about myself and let them know what I have been through. When I shared my experience with them and let them know I have been set free from my past, I told them it was Jesus who healed me and set me free. They told me, they also know Jesus.
So the question is, not only do you want to get well but do you know the one who can make you well? Do you long for healing and freedom from the torture of past events or maybe even a current one?
John 5:6 NASB When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, “Do you wish to get well?”
Jesus is still asking this question today and there is another question being ask.
John 5:12 NASB They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk’?”
Luke 9:18 NASB And it happened that while He was praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, “Who do the people say that I am?” 19 They answered and said, “John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen again.” 20 And He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.”
Do you want to be well, who do people say Jesus is, and who do believers say Jesus is are universal questions. These are questions everyone asks and answers. The answer to these questions carry our eternal destiny.
When I received Christ Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I was asked, Who do you say I Am? I had to say I didn't know but I will live pursuing to know Jesus as my Christ. I had no idea of what I said until,
John 17:3 AMP Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true [supreme and sovereign] God, and [in the same manner know] Jesus [as the] Christ whom You have sent.
This chapter will be used as a starting point to answer;
1. Do you want to get well
2. Who is Jesus and is who you say Jesus is, agree with God
Meeting The Sick Man
v1-8) Jesus is in Jerusalem and He goes to "a pool, called Bethesda." There were many ill people at this pool waiting to be healed. Out of all those people, Jesus sees this one man, He knows all about him, and what He needs. Jesus goes up to him and asks, "Do you want to be well?" Notice there is no talk of faith. Jesus just heals him.
Who Is Jesus
John 1:1, 14-18
Jesus is God. Jesus is the Word. Jesus is God in flesh that lived among people. He knows everything about everyone because He is God. Jesus healed because He is "full of grace and truth." Grace is the unearned favor of God. When we truly see Jesus, we see God.
Titus 2:11 AMP For the [remarkable, undeserved] grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12 It teaches us to reject ungodliness and worldly (immoral) desires, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives [lives with a purpose that reflect spiritual maturity] in this present age, 13 awaiting and confidently expecting the [fulfillment of our] blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14 who [willingly] gave Himself [to be crucified] on our behalf to redeem us and purchase our freedom from all wickedness, and to purify for Himself a chosen and very special people to be His own possession, who are enthusiastic for doing what is good.
Jesus, the grace of God. Jesus, the only way to God. Jesus, our great God and Savior. Jesus, the Son of God, "the Way, the Truth, and the Life," (John 14:6)
Jesus is God come from heaven to mankind. Any other answer and your entire belief foundation is false.
